When I was a kid, I have always wanted to own Dorothy's gorgeous, intensely eye popping ruby red slippers. Of course 20 years after I would want those ruby slippers to have a little makeover. After all, the design is 70 years old by next year.
To commemorate the film's 70th anniversary, Warner Bros. and Swarovski Crystals have teamed up to re-create Dorothy's infamous heels. Twenty designers include Betsey Johnson, L.A.M.B by Gwen Stefani, Christian Louboutin, Jimmy Choo, and Diane von Furstenberg have been chosen to design their own contemporary vision of what the ruby slippers should look like.
Their designs will be on display at Saks Fifth Avenue at September 4th. It will also be displayed in the New York Fashion Week. After that, the shoes will be auctioned off in which proceeds will go to Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation.
